On September 3rd 2006, Kids' Racing
World held their first event ever, taking a
group of kids from Big Brothers Big
Sisters of the Inland Empire to the Nascar
race at California Speedway. Under the
lights, the cars seemed bigger, brighter
and more exciting than ever.
With only that race and the following race
at Richmond left to determine the top 10
for the race for the championship, the
action was fierce. 14 of the 43 drivers
were trying to make the chase for the
championship with 6th through 11th in
points virtually tied. Big Brothers has a
saying, " little moments, big magic" and
while this event had lots of big and little
moments, the event had a lot of magic.
"I think we were able to bring our guests
to an event that perhaps they could not
attend without our help and that is a
special privilege," explained Lance
Ingmanson of Kids' Racing World. "To
see the faces of the kids and their
wonderful mentors, from the time the
luxury motorcoach pulled up to take them
to the track, to the National Anthem, to
"Gentlemen Start Your Engines", to the
roar of the crowd and cars at the green
flag start, there were just so many great
moments. I believe our first event was
the perfect example of the potential of
Kids' Racing World."
